Henri Gamache (June 6, 1889 – ? ), Sal’s older brother, was a magician and escape artist better known by his stage name Black Henry. Born in Louisiana, he was one of the most prominent African-American magicians of his time before his career came to an unpleasant end.
Henri wrote some books that contained directions for simple illusions, advice on astrology and lucky numbers, and a sampling of African-American voodoo folk magic customs and practices. It is not known who was responsible for Henri’s death or his subsequent resurrection as a zombie, but there is speculation it may have been the consequence of a vendetta by a rival magician for revealing his secrets in one of his books.
